HTC Desire Root - Step by Step Installation to root your HTC desir, Install ROM Manager on HTC Desire & Update with new ROM's like Gingerbread Android 2.3 from OXYGEN

Step by Step Installation to Root your HTC Desire, Install ROM Manager and Update new ROM?

1.    Now a day’s its very simple to root your phone with UNREVOKED method, just go to http://unrevoked.com/

2.    Choose your handset  like in my case its ‘HTC Desire’

3.    Download for Windows

4.    After download the file, first thing you have to do is uninstall HTC sync from your computer including HTC driver (On your computer, go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > and Uninstall HTC Sync and HTC driver if it is installed before you continue)

5.    Now download the HBOOT driver from http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3

6.    Installed HBOOT driver, plug your phone with your PC and it will install the new HBOOT drivers for your device

-      Cross verify the installation of drivers > Open Device Manager on your PC. Go to Start Menu –> Control Panel –> Device Manager.

-      Under the Other devices, you will find your Android device. Right click on it and select Update Driver Software.

cid:image014.png@01CBCF5D.289A4C60

7.    Now run the downloaded ‘unrevoked file for windows’, you will see this screen

8.    Plug your device and enable USB debugging on your device or just simply follow the instruction

9.    Done! You are rooted and have a custom recovery image!

You may be get error one time, please try again it should work with latest bootloader as well.

Mostly user gets the error ‘unrevoked error failed to get root is your firmware too new’

If you get the same error again, then please backup your phone including apps and data (with MyBackupPro or Backup Everything) and reset to factory defaults

Now try again and it should work this time.

Ø  Now you can download the ‘ROM Manager’ from the Market and install on your device

Ø  Now backup your current ROM with ROM Manager

Ø

Now, if you want you can download any of the new ROM’s available for HTC desire and install

Here are the instructions to install Anddroid 2.3 from OXYGEN RC6 for HTC Desire:

  1. Make sure your device is rooted. You can root it by above mentioned steps.
  2. Download the ROM from the link given below, and copy it to the root of your SD card.
  3. Open ROM Manager and choose install ROM from the SD Card and provide the path and choose both the option to proceed further (Backup existing Rom and Wipe Data amd Cache)
  4. Your phone will reboot and start in Recovery automatically, if not choose Recovery tab.
  5. Now it will process the installation automatically and your new ROM will get installed.
  6. If you get any error like unable to mount SD or anything like that then Boot you device again and open ROM Manager, under Utilities > click ‘Fix Permissions’ and this will make the necessary changes.

How to install the WinXP HyperTerminal client on Windows Vista or Windows 7?

How to install the WinXP HyperTerminal client on Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Free)

HyperTerminal is a Windows XP application that helps you to connect your computer to other  remote computers. This application is also used by NetAdmins to connect their laptops to switches to perform regular maintenance operations. But Windows Vista or Windows 7 do not include this application by default. All the alternatives available are either paid and the free ones are not up to the mark. In this article we will tell you how to install the Windows XP’s HyperTerminal client on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

First of all you need to get access to a Windows XP machine and copy two files hypertrm.dll andhypertrm.exe from that system to your target Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine. Alternatively, you can download the files in a zip-package from here. Once you have the zip file, you need to extract the two files from that package to your target system (Windows Vista or Windows 7). CHeck this screenshot below.

Make sure you keep the files hypertrm.dll and hypertrm.exe in the same folder. Now you can launch the HyperTerminal client by double clicking the hypertrm.exe file. And there you have a fully working HyperTerminal client. This HyperTerminal client functions normally on your Windows Vista or a Windows 7 system as it would on any other Windows XP system. The best part about this method is that the HyperTerminal client you get this way is both free and it works.

Outlook Keyboard Shortcuts

Outlook.jpg

You can accomplish that using two of the easiest to remember keyboard shortcuts, ones we should all be using: Ctrl+N for new item, Del to delete (or Ctrl+D).

The following is a (very) short list of some of the most popular, useful, and easy to remember keyboard shortcuts – ones we should be using more often. There are a lot more keyboard shortcuts but this is a good starting point.

Ctrl+N will get you a new item form in any folder. If you’re in a mail folder, it will be a new message form, in the calendar, a new appointment form.  Use Ctrl+Shift+M for new Mail when looking in any folder, Ctrl+Shift+A for new Appointment, Ctrl+Shift+C for new Contact, Ctrl+Shift+N for Note, or Ctrl+Shift+J for Journal. If you have texting configured in Outlook 2010, Ctrl+Shift+T is a new text message. Notice the pattern? Tasks and Meetings break the pattern as you’ll use Ctrl+Shift+K for a new task and Ctrl+Shift+Q for a new meeting. Oh well, the most used items – mail, appointment, and contact are easily remembered.

To save, press Ctrl+S. Use Alt+S to send an email, meeting or task request. Note that Alt+S will save contacts, appointments, and tasks.

Want to delete the selected message? Use the Delete key. Ctrl+D will also work. Both are much faster than switching to the Home tab to click the Delete button. (I did that last week on my tablet. My excuse – no keyboard. I added the delete command to the QAT to speed it up.)

Reply? Ctrl+R, or Ctrl+Shift+R to reply all. Forward is Ctrl+F.  More patterns. :)
Copy cut, paste and select all work in most Windows programs (Ctrl+C, X, V and A). Oh, and Ctrl+P for print.

Want to initiate a send and receive? Use F9.

Alt+F4 will close the current window (this is a windows shortcut and works in most programs).

Alt+F1 toggles the navigation pane off, on, and minimized. Alt+F2 does the same for the To-Do bar.

Use Tab and Shift+Tab to roll forward and backward between the panels – navigation pane or folder list, to message list, to reading pane. (This is one place where a mouse can win the speed race.)

Ctrl+1 jumps to the mail module, while calendar is ctrl+2, contacts are 3. Ctrl+6 is the folder list. Ctrl+4, 5, 7, and 8 (9 if you use BCM) cover the rest of the navigation pane modules.

If you are looking at your day, week or monthly calendar, Alt+ 0 thru 9 (or, 1 through 0) displays the next 1 to 10 days.

Tech News - Microsoft mocks Google's Web video decision

Microsoft mocks Google's Web video decision

A Microsoft evangelist has mocked Google's decision to remove H.264 video support from Chrome, implying that Google is trying to impose an edict on an industry that's already made up its mind to the contrary.

In a blog post, Tim Sneath, who runs Windows and Web evangelism for Microsoft, likens Google's WebM video codec to the utopian but unsuccessful Esperanto language. The blog post rewrites Google's original announcement that the company is removing support for the widely used H.264 codec to advance its own WebM.

Both technologies can be used with the nascent HTML5 standard to embed video directly into Web pages without using a plug-in such as Adobe Systems' Flash Player. But Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 beta and Apple's Safari support H.264, while Opera and Mozilla's Firefox support WebM and the earlier, largely unsuccessful Ogg Theora technology for encoding and decoding video. Sneath wrote:

The Esperanto language was invented last century as a politically neutral language that would foster peace and international understanding...We are supporting the Esperanto and Klingon languages, and will consider adding support for other high-quality constructed languages in the future. Though English plays an important role in speech today, as our goal is to enable open innovation, its further use as a form of communication in this country will be prohibited and our resources directed towards languages that are untainted by real-world usage.

Sneath hyperlinks "Esperanto" references to the WebM Project, "Klingon" to Theora, and "English" to the Wikipedia entry for H.264. (He doesn't attempt to draw any parallels between the difficulties of learning English and the expense of licensing H.264 patents.)

The post is titled "An Open Letter from the President of the United States of Google." And in a tweet, Sneath referred to Google's decision as "despotism."

Clearly, the post is snarky and jocular. But it still can be included as an example of the backlash against Google's H.264 move.

Microsoft is among the patent holders that receives payments when the MPEG LA licenses the H.264 pool of patents, but Microsoft said it pays more to the licensing group for including H.264 support in Windows 7 than it receives in royalty payments from the group.

Outlook 2010 gives error while booking resource or sending invite

Direct Booking does not successfully book a resource in Outlook 2010

Error like: Direct Booking does not successfully book a resource in Outlook 2010

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods to configure registry data to enable Outlook direct booking:

  • Modify the registry manually
  • Configure the registry by using Group Policy
  • Deploy the registry data by using the Office Customization Tool

Method 1: Manual modification of the registry

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756  How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

To use the direct booking feature in Outlook 2010, you must add registry data to your Outlook client. Use the following steps to add this registry data to enable direct booking:

  1. Exit Outlook.
  2. Start Registry Editor.
    • In Windows Vista, click Start

the Start button

, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

User Account Control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    • In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  1. Locate and then select the following subkey in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar

  1. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  2. Type EnableDirectBooking, and then press ENTER.
  3. Right-click EnableDirectBooking, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  5. Exit Registry Editor.
  6. Start Outlook.

Method 2: Configure the registry by using Group Policy

The registry data that is required to enable direct booking in Outlook can be configured by using Group Policy. The default Group Policy template (Outlk14.adm) for Outlook 2010 does not contain the policy setting that controls Outlook direct booking. Therefore, you must use a custom Group Policy template to enable direct booking by using Group Policy.

To deploy this setting by using a custom Group Policy template, follow these steps:

  1. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Download

Download the Outlk14-DirectBooking.zip package now.

For more information about how to download Microsoft support files, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

119591  How to obtain Microsoft support files from online services

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

  1. Extract the custom .adm template from the Outlk14-DirectBooking.zip package.

Note The custom .adm template contains the following text.
  2. CLASS MACHINE
  3. CLASS USER
  4.
  5.    CATEGORY !!L_MicrosoftOfficeOutlookDirectBooking
  6.          POLICY !!L_TurnOnOffDirectBooking
  7.              KEYNAME "Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar"
  8.              EXPLAIN !!L_TurnOnOffDirectBookingExplain
  9.              VALUENAME "EnableDirectBooking"
  10.              VALUEON NUMERIC 1
  11.              VALUEOFF NUMERIC 0
  12.          END POLICY
  13.       END CATEGORY
  14. [strings]
  15. L_Version="14.0.4760.1000"
  16. L_LCID="1033"
  17. L_MicrosoftOfficeOutlookDirectBooking="Outlook 2010 Direct Booking"
  18. L_TurnOnOffDirectBooking="Enable or disable direct booking"
  19. L_TurnOnOffDirectBookingExplain="This policy controls the Outlook direct booking feature in
Outlook 2010 \n \n By default, Outlook 2010 does not implement the direct booking code
used in earlier versions of Outlook, and a meeting request is sent to the resource
mailbox the same way a meeting request is sent to regular meeting attendees.\n \n
Enable this policy to configure Outlook to use the direct booking code whenever you add
a mailbox to the Resources box in a meeting request.\n \n
If you disable this policy or do not configure this policy, when you send a meeting
request to a mailbox configured for direct booking, the meeting is not successfully
booked. You do not receive an error message in this scenario. If you open the mailbox
configured for direct booking, the meeting request is in the Inbox folder."
  20. Add the Outlk14-DirectBooking.adm file to your Group Policy Editor.

Note The steps to add the .adm file to the Group Policy Editor vary, depending on the version of Windows that you are running. Also, because you may be applying the policy to an organizational unit (OU) and not to the whole domain, the steps may also vary in this aspect of applying a policy. Therefore, we recommend that you check your Windows documentation for more information.

After you add the .adm template to the Group Policy Editor, go to step 4.
  21. In the Group Policy Editor, follow these steps:

a.            Expand User Configuration.

b.            Expand Policies.

c.            Expand Administrative Templates: Policy definitions.

d.            Expand Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) to locate the policy node for your custom template. The custom .adm template that you extracted in step 2 is in this location. The template is named "Outlook 2010 Direct Booking."

Collapse this image

Outlook 2010 Direct Booking

  1. Click Outlook 2010 Direct Booking.
  2. Under Settings, double-click Enable or disable direct booking.
  3. Click Enabled, and then click OK.

After you enable the policy, the policy setting will be applied to the Outlook client workstations when the Group Policy update is replicated. To test this change, run the following command at a command prompt on a client workstation:

gpupdate /force

After you run this command, start Registry Editor on the client workstation to make sure that the following registry data exists on the client:

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar
DWORDEnableDirectBooking
Value1

If you see this registry data in the registry, the Group Policy setting is applied to this client. Start Outlook to verify that this change resolves the problem.

Method 3: Deployment of the registry data by using the Office Customization Tool

You can also deploy the registry data by using the Add registry entries option in the Office Customization Tool (OCT). Follow these steps in the OCT to deploy registry data that re-enables the direct booking feature in Outlook 2010.

Note To use the OCT, you must have an Enterprise edition of Office 2010. If you have a Retail edition of Office 2010, you receive the following error message when you try to start the OCT:

Files necessary to run the Office Customization Tool were not found. Run Setup from the installation point of a qualifying product.

  1. Start the OCT by using a command similar to the following:

\\server_name\share_name\Office2010\Setup.exe /admin

  1. In the Select Product dialog box, click Create a new Setup customization file for the following product.
  2. In the Select Product dialog box, select your Office product. Then, click OK.
  3. In the navigation pane of the OCT, select Add registry entries, and then click Add.
  4. In the Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box, specify the following settings, and then click OK:
    • RootHKEY_CURRENT_USER
    • Data typeREG_DWORD
    • KeySoftware\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar
    • Value nameEnableDirectBooking
    • Value data1

The following figure displays these changes made in the Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box:

Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box

After you click OK in the Add/Modify Registry Entry dialog box, the OCT displays the registry data as shown in the following figure:

Microsoft Office Customization Tool

  1. Complete any remaining tasks in the OCT, and then save the .msp file.
  2. Deploy Office 2010 by including this .msp file.

Outlook 2010 - Archive Options

How to Manage Auto/Manual Archive in Outlook 2010

If you want to keep Outlook 2010 clean and run faster, one method is to set up the AutoArchive feature. Today we show you how to configure and manage the feature in Outlook 2010.

Using AutoArchive allows you to manage space in your mailbox or on the email server by moving older items to another location on your hard drive.

Enable and Configure Auto Archive

In Outlook 2010 Auto Archive is not enabled by default. To turn it on, click on the File tab to access Backstage View, then click on Options.

1autoarchive

The Outlook Options window opens then click on Advanced then the AutoArchive Settings button.

2autoarchive

The AutoArchive window opens and you’ll notice everything is grayed out. Check the box next to Run AutoArchive every…

Note: If you select the Permanently delete old items option, mails will not be archived.

3autoarchive

Now you can choose the settings for how you want to manage the AutoArchive feature. Select how often you want it to run, prompt before the feature runs, where to move items, and other actions you want to happen during the process. After you’ve made your selections click OK.

4autoarchive

Manually Configure Individual Folders

For more control over individual folders that are archived, right-click on the folder and click on Properties.

6autoarchive

Click on the AutoArchive tab and choose the settings you want to change for that folder. For instance you might not want to archive a certain folder or move archived data to a specific folder.

7autoarchive

If you want to manually archive and backup an item, click on the File tab, Cleanup Tools, then Archive.

8autoarchive

Click the radio button next to Archive this folder and all subfolders. Select the folder you want to archive. In this example we want to archive this folder to a specific location of its own.

9autoarchive

The .pst files are saved in your documents folder and if you need to access them at a later time you can.

10autoarchive

After you’ve setup AutoArchive you can find items in the archived files. In the Navigation Pane expand the Archives folder in the list. You can then view and access your messages.

11autoarchive

You can also access them by clicking the File tab \ Open then Open Outlook Data File.

12autoarchive

Then you can browse to the archived file you want to open.

10autoarchive

Archiving old emails is a good way to help keep a nice clean mailbox, help speed up your Outlook experience, and save space on the email server. The other nice thing is you can configure your email archives and specific folders to meet your email needs.

Android: Apps to SD by default

Android 2.2 Froyo Tips: Install Applications to the SD Card by Default

Android 2.2: Apps to SD by default setting (HTC Desire and Others)

android froyo 2.2 tips

With so many applications available on the market,  You may ran out of internal storage just one day after bought your Android phone. Good news that the Android 2.2 Froyo feature that most people have been looking forward to is likely official support for installing apps to the SD card. Unfortunately, the Froyo system installs all new applications on your device’s internal memory by default. To make your HTC Desire / Android 2.2 phone put apps on the SD card by default, you need to follow this tips :

  1. First you have to enable USB debugging on your Android device from Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging.
  2. Now you need to download and install the Android SDK on your computer from http://developer.android.com/sdk/. Once you’ve downloaded and extracted the package to the folder of your choice, run SDK Setup.exe and click on Available Packages to the left. If you get an error message at this point, enable “Force https://…” in the Settings. From the list of available packages, select “Usb Driver package”, click on the Install Selected button in the bottom right corner and follow the prompts.
  3. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB-cable. Your OS will prompt you to install new drivers. Choose to install them from the android-sdk/usb_driver folder. Do not mount your device; you only need to plug-in the cable. If you are running Windows 7, UNPLUG your phone from PC, d/l the Android SDK kit but entirely skip the part with installing USB driver, instead just go to HTC page ( http://www.htc.com -> Support and find your product ) and d/l HTC Sync application, install it. Plug in the phone now, set connection type to synchronize and check if HTC Sync recognizes the phone, if yes, you are set (HTC Sync installs the needed ADB drivers under Win 7).  All you need to do now is to enable the USB Debugging in your phone and set connection type to “Charge only” (tho it worked also with sync setting) and follow up rest of the tutorial.
  4. Next, run a command prompt and navigate to the Android-SDK\tools folder. In Windows, this is done by selecting Run from the Start Menu (or by pressing Win+R) and typing cmd. You change drives in the command prompt by entering the drive letter followed by a colon (:), and change folders with the CD command. For example, to enter the Android-SDK folder, simply type cd android-sdk.
  5. In the Android-SDK\tools folder, type in adb devices and you should get a serial number starting with “H” in return. All you have to do next is entering adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2. Voilà, you’re done! Android will now install apps to the SD card by default.
  6. To switch back to storing software on the internal memory, enter adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0.

Note that it’s preferable to install certain apps to the main memory, since it will take a while before the SD card becomes available when you start your phone. Applications installed on the memory card will also be unavailable to the system each time you mount your phone as a disk drive. The internal storage is probably quicker as well, even though Google claims that “there is no effect on the application performance so long as the external storage is mounted on the device.” In general, apps that integrate with the Android OS and that often run in the background is better to install on the internal storage, while games and most other applications will have no problem chilling outside on your SD.

Homescreen widgets should be installed to the internal storage as well. I noticed that LauncherPro, for example, won’t recognize widgets stored on the SD card when you start your phone, because when the app is launched, the memory card is still unavailable.

From time to time, I need to clear or reset a saved password to a network share. When I connect to a remote computer and click the Remember Password checkbox, it gets stored somewhere… this command will help you manage those passwords:

rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr

This will popup a little application, with all those shares where you saved the password, and let you clear them one by one.

How to change Shutdown button in Windows 7 and VISTA

Change Windows 7 Shutdown Button

Windows 7 makes it really easy – just head into the Start Menu / Taskbar preferences by right-clicking on the start menu and choosing Properties.

http://www.howtogeek.com/geekers/up/sshot-2009-10-19-01-13-55.png

All you need to do is change the drop-down for Power Button Action to whatever you would prefer.

Change Windows Vista Power Buttons
You can configure this setting easily by using the advanced power settings panel, which is a little tricky to get to normally, but we’ll take the shortcut.

Open a command prompt (type cmd into the start menu search bar), and then type in the following:

powercfg.cpl,1

You could also take the long route (Control Panel \ Power Options \ Change Plan Settings \ Change Advanced Power Settings)

Once you get to this dialog, browse down as shown to “Power buttons and lid”

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/WindowsLiveWriter/ChangetheWindowsVistaPowerButtonstoShutD_16C9/image01.png

From here, you can change the options:

  • Power button action – Changes the hardware power button action
  • Start menu power button – Changes the power button on the Start Menu

You can change the power button to either Sleep, Hibernate or Shut Down, or even nothing for the hardware power button.

How to remove virus 'msbackup.exe' ?

MSBACKUP.EXE

Q. How to remove virus 'msbackup.exe' ?

A. First of all, "AVG" is the worst AntiVirus ever. I wonder why do so many people use it.
Get "Spybot S&D", or "Malwarebytes". Also, try cleaning your PC with Crap Cleaner (CCleaner). -Remember to turn off "System Restore" while removing the virus.- Once you get rid of the virus, get another antivirus program. I'd suggest Symantec Endpoint, but Eset Nod 32, Avast, Kaspersky etc... aren't bad too.

BlueScreenView - analyze system crashes

BlueScreenView - analyze system crashes

BlueScreenView enables you to investigate the cause of a system crash (blue screen of death) by analyzing the content of the Minidump files that are created during each crash. The program scans the content of the Minidump folder and provides a detailed report with the basic crash details as well as all the drivers and modules involved. It can highlight the drivers that were found in the error stack, allowing you to narrow down the possible cause for the crash. In addition to the technical details, the program can also show you a simulation of the original blue screen error. Note: In order to use BlueScreenView to analyze crash data, your system should be configure to save a `Small memory dump` file in the default folder - this setting can be found in the `Advance System Properties` dialog under `Startup and Recovery`.
