iPhone 4 - Reset iPhone to the factory default

Reset iPhone to the factory default

Resetting your iPhone takes it back to the way it was when it came out of the box. This can be handy if you’ve installed a bunch of apps and your home screen is a mess, or if you’ve misspelled words and the misspelling have been incorporated into your dictionary. To reset the device, simply tap on Settings in your Home screen and then navigate to General >Reset.

From this screen at right you can reset or restore your content and settings, network settings, keyboard dictionary, home screen layout or location warnings. Be warned these resets can’t be undone. Note that if you have set a passcode on your device, you have to enter it before you can reset the device.

Resetting a locked up iPhone

Holding down the power button on top of the iPhone will give the option to power off the phone. But what do you do if your phone locks up and does not respond when you press that button? Try holding down the power button and the Home button at the same time. Keep holding them until the phone resets or shuts off, then let go.

How To: Recalibrate Your iDevice's Home Button

iPhone - Recalibrate Your iDevice's Home Button

It’s easy to forget about your iDevice’s home button while you’re mezmerized by it’s gorgeous display (even iDevices without the Retina display look great to me). No matter what, the home button may be the most important part of your iDevice. It enables you to multitask, quit apps, and use Siri – just to name a few things. After awhile, your home button may start to seem a little laggy or unresponsive. Luckily, you can fix that problem in three easy steps:

Step 1: Launch one of the stock apps on your iDevice (Weather, iTunes, Stocks, etc.).

Step 2: Press and hold the power button until you see the “slide to power off” prompt, then release the power button.

Step 3: Press and hold you home button until the the “slide to power off” prompt disappears and the app force quits.

You should now be on your home screen and your home button should be recalibrated! Recalibrating your home button this way will work on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This trick has been around for a while, but with all the new iDevice owners out there, it couldn’t hurt to share some information that may save time, money, and a trip to the Apple Store.

Why Windows 8 Tablets Will Surprise Everyone

Windows-based tablets haven’t been treated kindly by the test of time. Those released in the Windows XP era relied on wonky, stylus-based data entry, and even modern, touch-based tablets running Windows 7 are poor performers.

Indeed, Microsoft has a troubled tablet history that the public isn’t soon to forget. This November, Forrester released a study that showed consumer interest in a Windows-based tablet dropped significantly this year. At the start of 2011, 46 percent of potential tablet owners wanted a Windows device. By Q3, that number slipped to 25 percent

Facebook - shooting for January iPad app update with Timeline profile support

Facebook shooting for January iPad app update with Timeline profile support

Facebook recently introduced a new feature for profiles called Timeline, and the social network giant describes it as “[telling] your life story with a new kind of profile.” The feature, as demonstrated for the web in Facebook’s promotional video shown above, places all of your photographs, interactions, status updates, and more on a timeline that starts from the day you were born.

The feature works great on the desktop web and mobile version of Facebook’s website, and now Facebook plans to bring Timeline to the iPad’s Facebook application. Timeline was supposed to come to the iPad in December, but the feature’s release was pushed back due to last minute bugs found during advanced testing. Facebook is now planning to launch the update between mid-January and late January. Read on to learn more about Timeline for iPad

The large, Multi-Touch version of Timeline is described as very smooth and intuitive and a fusion of the web and iPhone/iPod touch versions. It is a touch screen optimized version of the web experience.

“The app was already delayed once because of bugs,” a source said. “So, it would not be surprising for the update to be delayed once again.” The source further stressed, though, that a mid-to-late-January launch is definitely the current plan. My source also mentioned that Apple’s approval process is also a factor, and those additional days may come on top of the mid-to-late-January goal, pushing the release back

Thunderbolt Coming to PCs in April 2012

DigiTimes reports that Intel has notified partners that the company will "fully release" its Thunderbolt technology in April 2012. Intel is reportedly preparing to launch Thunderbolt-supported motherboards, notebooks and desktop PCs at that time.

Intel and Apple originally partnered on the new technology which has become standard across Apple's MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and iMac. Digitimes reports that the cost of Thunderbolt technology is expected to drop in the second half of 2012, allowing more widespread adoption.

While Apple does offer Thunderbolt across most of its product line, the first Thunderbolt products have been limited to relatively high end devices. More widespread adoption should help drive adoption by accessory makers that will benefit both Mac and PC users that use Thunderbolt.

Intel has always said that they see both USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt as complementary technologies and plans to support both in their 2012 motherboards.

Google's iPad Killer Ready in 6 Months, Says Eric Schmidt

Soon Google could show tablet makers like ASUS, HTC, Lenovo, and Motorola how a real Android tablet is made. During an interview with an Italian newspaper this week, Eric Schmidt, Google’s Executive Chairman, mentioned plans “to market a tablet of the highest quality”.

The idea sounds similar to Google’s Nexus line of smartphones.

Google typically helms the designs of those devices, and the final products are usually treated as the ideal pairing of hardware with Android software.

Though the often-talkative Schmidt says little else along the lines of confirmed plans, he does give the tablet a six month window.

The rest of the article finds Schmidt waxing on the nature of capitalism and the spirit of competition between Apple and Google, as well as American tech makers taking on new products from manufacturers in Europe and Asia.

iPhone App of the Day - Shoot Photos Using Your iPhone's Volume Button

iPhone Camera Tips:

Now that you have a brand new iPhone you'll probably be snapping photos before doing anything else. One of the cooler photo upgrades in iOS 5 is the ability to capture snapshots using iPhone's VOLUME UP (+) button. This feature makes it simple to shoot rapid fire photos and it also takes the awkwardness out of shooting those one-arm, self-portrait shots when using your front-facing camera.

iPhone Tip of the Day - Wi-Fi in Airplane Mode

In the last issue, we published a news item about airlines introducing in-flight Wi-Fi. The iPhone 2.0 software and later versions allow you to use Wi-Fi while in Airplane Mode. To do this, enable Airplane Mode first and then switch on Wi-Fi

Popular iOS Apps And Games On Sale For The Holidays – Over 260 To Choose From!

With Apple shutting down iTunes Connect for the holidays, developers won't able to change the prices of their apps for the next seven days, so we figured this would be the best time to add to and edit our sale list from earlier in the week.

We have over 80 new additions to our holiday list, which include titles like Grand Theft Auto 3, QuickOffice Pro, Reiner Knizia's Tigris & Euphrates, AirTodo, Doom Classic, and Amazing Breaker HD. We also kept all of the recent additions to the top of each price break to make it easier for those who already took a peek at our previous list to find new deals.

As always, an "*" next to a title indicates that this is its lowest price ever. Enjoy!
