Outlook 2010 - Archive Options

How to Manage Auto/Manual Archive in Outlook 2010

If you want to keep Outlook 2010 clean and run faster, one method is to set up the AutoArchive feature. Today we show you how to configure and manage the feature in Outlook 2010.

Using AutoArchive allows you to manage space in your mailbox or on the email server by moving older items to another location on your hard drive.

Enable and Configure Auto Archive

In Outlook 2010 Auto Archive is not enabled by default. To turn it on, click on the File tab to access Backstage View, then click on Options.

1autoarchive

The Outlook Options window opens then click on Advanced then the AutoArchive Settings button.

2autoarchive

The AutoArchive window opens and you’ll notice everything is grayed out. Check the box next to Run AutoArchive every…

Note: If you select the Permanently delete old items option, mails will not be archived.

3autoarchive

Now you can choose the settings for how you want to manage the AutoArchive feature. Select how often you want it to run, prompt before the feature runs, where to move items, and other actions you want to happen during the process. After you’ve made your selections click OK.

4autoarchive

Manually Configure Individual Folders

For more control over individual folders that are archived, right-click on the folder and click on Properties.

6autoarchive

Click on the AutoArchive tab and choose the settings you want to change for that folder. For instance you might not want to archive a certain folder or move archived data to a specific folder.

7autoarchive

If you want to manually archive and backup an item, click on the File tab, Cleanup Tools, then Archive.

8autoarchive

Click the radio button next to Archive this folder and all subfolders. Select the folder you want to archive. In this example we want to archive this folder to a specific location of its own.

9autoarchive

The .pst files are saved in your documents folder and if you need to access them at a later time you can.

10autoarchive

After you’ve setup AutoArchive you can find items in the archived files. In the Navigation Pane expand the Archives folder in the list. You can then view and access your messages.

11autoarchive

You can also access them by clicking the File tab \ Open then Open Outlook Data File.

12autoarchive

Then you can browse to the archived file you want to open.

10autoarchive

Archiving old emails is a good way to help keep a nice clean mailbox, help speed up your Outlook experience, and save space on the email server. The other nice thing is you can configure your email archives and specific folders to meet your email needs.

Android: Apps to SD by default

Android 2.2 Froyo Tips: Install Applications to the SD Card by Default

Android 2.2: Apps to SD by default setting (HTC Desire and Others)

android froyo 2.2 tips

With so many applications available on the market,  You may ran out of internal storage just one day after bought your Android phone. Good news that the Android 2.2 Froyo feature that most people have been looking forward to is likely official support for installing apps to the SD card. Unfortunately, the Froyo system installs all new applications on your device’s internal memory by default. To make your HTC Desire / Android 2.2 phone put apps on the SD card by default, you need to follow this tips :

  1. First you have to enable USB debugging on your Android device from Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging.
  2. Now you need to download and install the Android SDK on your computer from http://developer.android.com/sdk/. Once you’ve downloaded and extracted the package to the folder of your choice, run SDK Setup.exe and click on Available Packages to the left. If you get an error message at this point, enable “Force https://…” in the Settings. From the list of available packages, select “Usb Driver package”, click on the Install Selected button in the bottom right corner and follow the prompts.
  3. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB-cable. Your OS will prompt you to install new drivers. Choose to install them from the android-sdk/usb_driver folder. Do not mount your device; you only need to plug-in the cable. If you are running Windows 7, UNPLUG your phone from PC, d/l the Android SDK kit but entirely skip the part with installing USB driver, instead just go to HTC page ( http://www.htc.com -> Support and find your product ) and d/l HTC Sync application, install it. Plug in the phone now, set connection type to synchronize and check if HTC Sync recognizes the phone, if yes, you are set (HTC Sync installs the needed ADB drivers under Win 7).  All you need to do now is to enable the USB Debugging in your phone and set connection type to “Charge only” (tho it worked also with sync setting) and follow up rest of the tutorial.
  4. Next, run a command prompt and navigate to the Android-SDK\tools folder. In Windows, this is done by selecting Run from the Start Menu (or by pressing Win+R) and typing cmd. You change drives in the command prompt by entering the drive letter followed by a colon (:), and change folders with the CD command. For example, to enter the Android-SDK folder, simply type cd android-sdk.
  5. In the Android-SDK\tools folder, type in adb devices and you should get a serial number starting with “H” in return. All you have to do next is entering adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2. VoilĂ , you’re done! Android will now install apps to the SD card by default.
  6. To switch back to storing software on the internal memory, enter adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0.

Note that it’s preferable to install certain apps to the main memory, since it will take a while before the SD card becomes available when you start your phone. Applications installed on the memory card will also be unavailable to the system each time you mount your phone as a disk drive. The internal storage is probably quicker as well, even though Google claims that “there is no effect on the application performance so long as the external storage is mounted on the device.” In general, apps that integrate with the Android OS and that often run in the background is better to install on the internal storage, while games and most other applications will have no problem chilling outside on your SD.

Homescreen widgets should be installed to the internal storage as well. I noticed that LauncherPro, for example, won’t recognize widgets stored on the SD card when you start your phone, because when the app is launched, the memory card is still unavailable.

How to change Shutdown button in Windows 7 and VISTA

Change Windows 7 Shutdown Button

Windows 7 makes it really easy – just head into the Start Menu / Taskbar preferences by right-clicking on the start menu and choosing Properties.

http://www.howtogeek.com/geekers/up/sshot-2009-10-19-01-13-55.png

All you need to do is change the drop-down for Power Button Action to whatever you would prefer.

Change Windows Vista Power Buttons
You can configure this setting easily by using the advanced power settings panel, which is a little tricky to get to normally, but we’ll take the shortcut.

Open a command prompt (type cmd into the start menu search bar), and then type in the following:

powercfg.cpl,1

You could also take the long route (Control Panel \ Power Options \ Change Plan Settings \ Change Advanced Power Settings)

Once you get to this dialog, browse down as shown to “Power buttons and lid”

http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/WindowsLiveWriter/ChangetheWindowsVistaPowerButtonstoShutD_16C9/image01.png

From here, you can change the options:

  • Power button action – Changes the hardware power button action
  • Start menu power button – Changes the power button on the Start Menu

You can change the power button to either Sleep, Hibernate or Shut Down, or even nothing for the hardware power button.

How to remove virus 'msbackup.exe' ?

MSBACKUP.EXE

Q. How to remove virus 'msbackup.exe' ?

A. First of all, "AVG" is the worst AntiVirus ever. I wonder why do so many people use it.
Get "Spybot S&D", or "Malwarebytes". Also, try cleaning your PC with Crap Cleaner (CCleaner). -Remember to turn off "System Restore" while removing the virus.- Once you get rid of the virus, get another antivirus program. I'd suggest Symantec Endpoint, but Eset Nod 32, Avast, Kaspersky etc... aren't bad too.

BlueScreenView - analyze system crashes

BlueScreenView - analyze system crashes

BlueScreenView enables you to investigate the cause of a system crash (blue screen of death) by analyzing the content of the Minidump files that are created during each crash. The program scans the content of the Minidump folder and provides a detailed report with the basic crash details as well as all the drivers and modules involved. It can highlight the drivers that were found in the error stack, allowing you to narrow down the possible cause for the crash. In addition to the technical details, the program can also show you a simulation of the original blue screen error. Note: In order to use BlueScreenView to analyze crash data, your system should be configure to save a `Small memory dump` file in the default folder - this setting can be found in the `Advance System Properties` dialog under `Startup and Recovery`.

Free HTTP Server >Fortitude HTTP Is A Local Web Server For Windows

Fortitude HTTP Is A Local Web Server For Windows

The web server is immediately functional after installation and it is possible to connect to example websites by pointing the web browser to http://localhost/.

The http management console is used to configure the web server locally. It displays the hosted websites, their settings and global settings in the left sidebar.

New websites can be added easily by right-clicking the websites entry and selecting Configure from the context menu. Here it is possible to delete, add and edit websites.

A name, port, root directory and description can be added in the web site creation menu. Each website can be configured individually from a maximum connection limit and buffer size to the server admin email, root login details, scripting engines (supported are python, php, perl and vbs), SSI and CGI.

The global settings are identical to the local ones, with the difference that they are applicable for all web servers.

The only thing missing is a database server like MySQL which needs to be installed separately.

Windows 7 Tips and Tricks > Wipe your Hard Drive Securely

Wipe your drives securely with a hidden Windows 7 tool

It’s always a worry when you get rid of a PC or hard drive that all sorts of personal data could be sitting on it waiting to be stolen.  This is even more important when it comes to business computers.

There have always been a huge variety of hard disk wiping packages available from third-parties, but did you know that Windows 7 has it’s own free in-built tool for securely erasing, not just whole hard disks, but specific folders as well?

The cipher.exe tool has been around for years now and is used for managing the EFS (Encrypted File System) feature that preceeded Bitlocker and was first introduced with Windows 2000.  It’s run from the Command Prompt (as an Administrator).

With Windows 7 though Microsoft have added a new switch to the tool, and it’s one you should definitely use with care!

http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Command-Prompt-598x1024.jpg

The command is Simply cipher /w x:\folder where you would substitute x:\folder for the location you want wiped, for instance your D:\ drive or your C:\Users\Mike Halsey\Music folder.

This will write a series of 0s, 1s and then random characters to every sector of the drive or folder to securely erase the data that’s stored there.  Believe me, if you do this casually you’re not going to get your data back afterwards.

Microsoft say that this feature is here for clearing empty folders and drives that need to be erased, and it’s an excellent way to save money on expensive third-party software.

So the next time you’re upgrading your hard disk, don’t waste your money, just cipher the thing instead.

6 Ways To Sync Your iPod To Computer Without iTunes

sync ipod to computerThere has always been one universal constant for purchasers of an iPod – that they would be using Apple’s iTunes to sync it. Apple’s iTunes has been downloaded millions of times and is adored by many, but what if you’re looking for an alternative?

How to create a recurring e-mail message in Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 / Send recurring email reminder automatically

Microsoft Article Number KB239087

Outlook does not provide a means to create recurring e-mail messages. For example, you might want to send an e-mail message every month to remind a group of people that a report is due. While you can set up appointments and tasks as recurring events, you cannot create a recurring e-mail message.

You can use Visual Basic Script and the recurrence settings of a task to automatically generate a recurring e-mail message. This procedure consists of the following tasks:

  1. Publish a custom task form that creates an e-mail message when the task status equals completed.
  2. Use the custom task form to create a recurring task.
  3. When the task comes due, mark it as completed. The code will generate the boilerplate message, which you then send. At the same time, a new task is created because the original task was set to recur.

Possible Cause: The message in the queue has expired. The sending server tried to relay or deliver the message, but the action was not completed before the message expiration time occurred. This NDR may also indicate that a message header limit has been reached on a remote server or that some other protocol timeout occurred during communication with the remote server.

Troubleshooting: This code typically indicates an issue on the receiving server. Verify the validity of the recipient address, and verify that the receiving server is configured to receive messages correctly. You may have to reduce the number of recipients in the header of the message for the host that you are receiving this NDR from. If you resend the message, it is placed in the queue again. If the receiving server is on line, the message is delivered.

Windows 7 Account Lockout (How to trace source?)

Windows.jpg

Winodws 7 Account Lockout (How to trace source?)

Once we confirm the problematic computer, we can perform further research to locate the root cause. Actually, there are many possible causes for bad password, such as cached password, schedule task, mapped drives, services, etc. Please remove the previous password cache which may be used by some applications and therefore cause the account lockout problem.

Troubleshooting steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.

2. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Click the "Manage Password" button.

4. Check to see if these domain account's passwords are cached. If so, remove them.

5. Check if the problem has been resolved now.

If there is any application or service is running as the problematic user account, please disable it and then check whether the problem occurs.

How to use Account Lockout and Management Tools

How to use Account Lockout and Management Tools

DOWNLOAD NOW

Installing ALTools.exe

After you've downloaded ALTools.exe from the Download Center, double-click on the file to extract the tools to a directory of your choosing. Then install the tools as needed on domain controllers, member servers, or workstations as described under each tool discussed below.

AcctInfo.dll

This DLL adds a new tab called Additional Account Info to user account properties sheets in the Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC). Copy the file to the System32 folder of the computer on which you run ADUC (typically an administrator workstation with adminpak.msi installed) and then open a command prompt and type regsvr32 acctinfo.dll to register the DLL. Now open ADUC and view the properties of a locked-out user like Bob Smith in Figure 2 below:

http://www.windowsecurity.com/img/upl/image0031093937754294.gif
Figure 2: AcctInfo.dll adds the Additional Account Info tab to the properties sheet for a user account

There's lots of information here, but in particular line four indicates the date and time when Bob's account became locked and when it will automatically unlock. Clicking the Domain PW Info button displays the password policy for the domain:

Figure 3: Result of clicking the Domain PW Info button

Clicking the Set PW On Site DC button lets you reset the password for the user and unlock the account (see Figure 3). This is useful because if you want to reset a user's password you should do it using a domain controller in the AD site where the user's computer resides, otherwise replication latency may cause a delay before the user can log on again. This is a better approach to resetting an account by right-clicking on it and selecting Reset Password.

ALockout.dll

This tool creates a log file that can help you diagnose the cause of account lockout problems. Extract the files from ALockout.zip (for Windows 2000) or AlockoutXP.zip (for Windows XP) and copy them the computer experiencing the lockout problems (usually a user's workstation). Copy ALockout.dll to the System32 directory and double-click on Appinit.reg to register the DLL. Then restart the machine and when the lockout problem happens again you can view the log file %WinDir%\debug\ALockout.txt to troubleshoot. Note that interpreting this log requires you understanding Netlogon logging, which is discussed in detail in the previously mentioned whitepaper

AloInfo.exe

This tool displays the password age for user accounts so you can determine which accounts are about to expire and anticipate problems before they occur. To use this tool copy it to a folder in the system path on a domain controller and run it from a command prompt. Here's an example:

C:\>aloinfo /expires /server:test220

Getting Users (This may take a while)...

Retrieved 28 users
Printing Users in descending PW age...

Administrator,28
krbtgt,28
asmith,4
bsmith,4
csmith,3
dsmith,3
esmith,3
...

You can also use this tool to display the credentials for all mapped drives for the currently logged-on user, which can help when troubleshooting account lockout problems caused by cached credentials for persistent connections:

C:\>aloinfo /stored /server:test220

Getting Service Names and the account they start with...

Checking Mapped Drives for usernames...
Drive Y: is mapped to \\test220\docs with username DEFAULT_USERNAME

EnableKerbLog.vbs
Used as a startup script, allows Kerberos to log on to all your clients that run Windows 2000 and later.

EventCombMT.exe
This tool gathers event logs from several machines to one central location. You can create filters for searching specific event IDS across all servers.

LockoutStatus.exe

This tool displays various information about locked out accounts that can help you troubleshoot the cause of the lockout. Copy the file to a domain controller and double-click on it to run it, then choose File-->Select Target and specify the name of the user whose account lockout status you want to display. Right-click on a displayed entry to unlock the account, reset its password, or perform other actions (Figure 5):

Internal error: Failed to Expand Shell Folder Constant "userappdata"

Click on “Start-Run, type “regedit” (without the quotes)
Navigate to this registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Software --> Microsoft --> Windows --> Current Version --> Explorer --> User Shell Folders
Clear the key: Recent (right mouse click on the key/folder, choose “Delete”)
Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

If this fails to correct your problem, then

The spyware responsible for this makes a simple change to keep you from installing anything new... go to the UserShellFolders folder in your registry, the one where you were told to delete the Recent folder. Look at the APPDATA folder and notice that it has the path $APPDATA$. The path was %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

Changed the path on the bad comp to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming and rebooted into safe mode. I was able to install MBAM without a hitch and am currently running a scan the machine.

Font and Size for Business/Professsional emails and Business Letters

Font and Size for Professional or Business Emails

·         Choose between casual fonts. Casual fonts are sans-serif, or without the calligraphy edges. These fonts have a wider range, from Arial and Trebuchet to Jokerman and Lucinda Handwriting. It's a good rule of thumb to choose calm fonts, such as Arial or Trebuchet, when writing a business letter

·         Keep your font between 11 and 12 points tall. Traditional serif fonts usually need to be 12 points tall. Sans serif fonts can be easily read at 11 points. Choose a font size that is easily readable without unnecessarily taking up too much space.

·         an email template for a client, with Verdana 11px as the default font setting is good

I personally like is Trebuchet when writing Business emails or letters...
